Copenhagen, Denmark, June 18, 2020 – The Contracting Authority representing the main Danish TV broadcasters and Nielsen (NYSE: NLSN) today announced a five-year agreement under which Nielsen will be endorsed as the new provider of the Measurement of Viewers in Denmark.
Effective 1 January 2022, Nielsen’s innovative solution will bring to the Danish market a total view of video audiences on traditional TV-distribution and streaming platforms. In addition to linear TV broadcast, this will mean visibility of BVOD (Broadcast Video On Demand) services on connected TVs and digital devices in the home.
Nielsen’s solution combines Nielsen’s single source panel with a census-based measurement to provide media owners and buyers with a granular dataset covering a daily view of how people engage with video across broadcast and streaming platforms. This hybrid approach provides a more holistic view of Danish audiences, reflecting the myriad viewing options available today. It allows the industry to see and monetise the big picture.
Chantale Coulombe, Nielsen Denmark Media Commercial Leader stated: “This new world of video content is more complex than it’s ever been to measure. It requires an infrastructure that can not only cover a wide variety of new technical configurations to meet today’s needs, but also evolve rapidly with the times. Independent, trusted, innovative measurement is critical for media sellers and buyers to trade on audience metrics. Nielsen’s high caliber reputation will provide the Danish market with confidence and transparency to do so”.
Matt O’Grady, Global Commercial President Nielsen Media added: “Nielsen’s latest generation television panel technologies – Nielsen’s Streaming and Nano Meters – as well as the state-of-the art digital device panel and census solutions and methodologies have been deployed all over the world. We can ensure that our full portfolio of products will provide the Danish media industry with the linear and streaming data they need to grow their business. The Nielsen team will hit the ground running, providing the Danish market with the confidence that our measurement has been proven and tested all over the world.”
Frederik Barnholdt, Head of Market & Performance Measurement at TV 2 and Chairman of the Danish TV stations steering committee concluded: “The viewing behaviour in Danish homes is changing rapidly and we are positive to select Nielsen as our endorsed measurement provider to help buyers and sellers monetise it. Nielsen’s panel of 1,750 households is the largest panel we have had to date and this will ensure a greater understanding of video consumption on broadcast and streaming platforms.”
