Nielsen Sports Senior Staff Software Development Engineer

Nielsen Sports is the premier provider of analytics and insights within the growing sports industry, offering the most reliable source of independent and holistic market data in the industry and the most complete view of consumer trends and habits worldwide. Combining solutions from sponsorship effectiveness to fan data capabilities with Nielsen’s understanding of consumer behavior and media consumption means Nielsen Sports is uniquely positioned to help businesses maximize their commercial success.
We are looking for a passionate senior staff software engineer to help drive our effort for working on analyzing sports content across broadcast tv and social networks. Working closely with product teams and engineering teams, you will help drive and develop critical solutions for Nielsen clients that will help expand our footprint in the brand detection space.

Responsibilities will include significant hands-on software development, designing, coding, building software services to support the scale out of the team's services, and working with other senior engineers and DevOps to integrate capacity insights with automation and improve service scalability and performance. You will use statistical and analytic methods to systemize the identification of bottlenecks, root causing issues and orchestrating actions across our capacity management infrastructure to remediate issues. You will have a major influence in coaching others across the organization, in collaboration with software development teams, as well as leading local development to improve operational excellence.

Successful candidates will be well versed in automation, system design and remediation, technical leadership, and collaboration. We are looking for people that are self-driven, able to deal with the ambiguity between technical and business trade-offs, and interested in innovating on highly scalable distributed systems problems. Being a team player is a must. You will be working daily with your team members to manage product releases and day-to-day development activities. You'll be expected to help mentor other engineers, participate in designing new software, do code reviews, and most importantly ship code!

  • 10+ years of development experience (Java, C#, C/C++, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Experience working on at least any of following two areas: large-scale distributed application development, Unix/Linux environments, and deep-dive root-cause problem analysis
  • MS or PhD in a STEM field, or equivalent work experience
  • Expertise with AWS and Kubernetes
  • Experience with working with geographically dispersed teams
  • Great communication skills
